About Heibukan …

What does ‘Heibukan’ mean & why is that my business name?

As a young girl, I danced every spare moment I had, twirling and leaping to the music my parents played on their record player. My love and joy of movement led me to pursue my B.A. Degree in Modern Dance. I have performed in many various dance companies some being; The Dancer’s Company, a performing and touring contemporary ensemble; Impulse, a modern dance improvisation performing group; and The Art Of Jazz, a professional jazz dance company. I have also studied & taught yoga in a studio, as well as Physical Education in the Public School System. Also, I love the Martial Art, Aikido & I currently practice & teach Aikido.

‘Heibukan’ was a name given to me by my Aikido Sensei which means ‘House of Dancing Spirit’. This name fits me as my life has been full of movement & the healing arts … Dancing, Yoga, Aikido, Teaching Physical Education & many various Modalities of Healing. During my dancing days, my friend painted a picture of me titled ‘The Dancing Tao.’ When I perform Bowen work on clients … it is like a dance as I move with the healing work. Please check out the pics below :)

Dancing Tao

This is the painting my friend, Jon Yager, painted for me during my dancing days. Celi was my nickname.
